How the cleaning works

The set-up

We start by giving the plants around your home a good rinse, so your garden stays green and healthy, and lay drop cloths over any fragile flowers. Next, our crew sets up the ladder and harnesses in. If your roof doesn't already have a safety anchor, we install a temporary one at the top.

The clean-up

Heavy moss is brushed off by hand and loose debris is blown away. Your roof gets a gentle wash with an EPA-registered cleaner, followed by our moss powder treatment. Before we leave, we remove any temporary anchor and bag up the moss that fell around your home.

Roof Life

What to expect after your roof cleaning and moss treatment.

  1. Day 1 Roof right after a moss treatment

    Cleaned & treated

Your moss turns white, and you'll see rows of white powder along the peak and valleys of your roof.

  2. The next rain Rain running off a roof

    The treatment spreads

Rain spreads the moss treatment and preventer across your roof, helping protect it for 1 to 3 years.

  3. About 1 month A clean roof about a month after treatment

    Completely clean

The treatment finishes its work in about a month. Roofs with heavy buildup can take up to 3 months.

When most homeowners clean their roof

Most homeowners clean their roof as soon as they notice moss or dark streaks starting to spread. Others plan it before selling their home, after a long wet stretch, or simply as part of keeping their home looking its best.

Moss grows in our damp Northwest climate all year, so any time is a good time to start. Most roofs stay clean with a visit every 1 to 3 years, and catching moss early keeps each cleaning quick and easy on your roof.

A non-penetrating safety anchor resting over the peak of a shingle roof

Non-penetrating roof anchors

If your roof doesn't already have a safety anchor, we bring a temporary one that rests over the peak. No screws, no nails and no holes in your shingles.

The anchor grips your roof by friction, and it works on roofs with ridge vents too. Our crew clips their harness lines to it before stepping onto the roof. If you already have an anchor, we clip into yours, and nothing extra goes on your roof.

Common questions

Will my roof look clean the day you leave?

Loose moss and debris are gone the same day. The treatment does the rest: black algae streaks fade over 2 to 4 weeks, and attached moss and lichen die off and wash away with the rain over 4 to 8 weeks (up to 3 months for heavy buildup).

What are the white spots on my roof?

That's the powder treatment. The next time it rains, it spreads evenly across your shingles and keeps protecting them.

Do you pressure wash roofs?

No. High pressure strips the protective granules off shingles. We use a low-pressure soft wash, the method the asphalt roofing industry recommends.

Can I get my gutters done at the same time?

Yes, and it's the smart move since roof debris ends up in your gutters. Add gutter cleaning to your quote and you only pay one trip charge.
